NRS are best known for their paddle boards and rafting gear, but their inflatable kayaks line deserves attention of its own. The Akamai and Pike models are made for those who want the flexibility of a kayak but have no room to store a hardshell or a trailer to carry it. All NRS kayaks come as a complete set with the manufacturer's warranty through VAKA Sport.

Who is an inflatable kayak for?

An inflatable kayak solves the biggest problem with hardshell kayaks: storage and transport. Rolled up it fits in a backpack or a car boot, weighs 12 to 18 kg and needs no roof rack or trailer. Modern models with high pressure chambers and I beam construction come close to hardshell kayaks in stiffness.

NRS inflatable kayaks are pumped to 8 to 10 PSI and use reinforced double wall PVC materials. The result is a stable, comfortable and durable kayak you can keep in an apartment or a garage with no special conditions.

NRS Akamai: a versatile inflatable kayak

The Akamai series comes in three lengths: Akamai 110 (335 cm), Akamai 125 (381 cm) ir Akamai 145 (442 cm tandem).

The Akamai 110 is the most compact model, made for one paddler. A shorter hull means better manoeuvrability and less weight. Ideal for lakes and calm rivers.

The Akamai 125 is the middle option, with better tracking and a higher load capacity. Suitable for longer trips and heavier paddlers. Probably the most versatile model in the series.

The Akamai 145 is a tandem model for two paddlers. If you plan to paddle with a partner or a child, it is the only NRS inflatable kayak for the job. Its 442 cm length gives excellent stability and room for both passengers with all their gear.

All Akamai models have adjustable inflatable seats and D rings for securing gear, and are made from tough NRS PVC with reinforced seams.

NRS Pike: an inflatable fishing kayak

NRS Pike is a dedicated fishing kayak with all the features you need for fishing. The wide, stable hull lets you cast and land fish comfortably. It has rod holders, storage for gear and mounting points for extra electronics.

The Pike's standout advantage: you can roll it up, put it in the car boot and drive to any lake or river without a trailer. It is the ideal solution for anglers who want to reach remote fishing spots where there is no easy access to launch a big kayak.

Compared with hardshell fishing kayaks, the Pike does not have the same stability as Galaxy Kayaks or Bonafide models, but makes up for it with easy transport and space saving. Which NRS kayak should you choose?

If you are looking for a versatile inflatable kayak for one person, the Akamai 125 is the best balance between compactness and features. If small size and weight matter most, the Akamai 110 will be more convenient. If you will paddle as a pair, the Akamai 145 is the only tandem option. And if fishing is your main goal, the Pike with its fishing equipment will be the best choice.

Frequently asked questions

Safety on the water

Always wear a life jacketwhen kayaking. For recreational paddling, light and comfortable WALLYS buoyancy aids are a great choice: they do not restrict movement and are affordable. We offer sizes for children and adults based on body weight. More about safety gear: life jacket comparison.

Is an inflatable kayak as stable as a hardshell?

NRS inflatable kayaks with high pressure chambers and I beam construction are very stable. They are not as stiff as rotomoulded hardshell kayaks, but in practice the difference is small. For beginners and intermediate paddlers the stability will be more than enough.

How long does it take to inflate an NRS kayak?

With the included high pressure pump, inflating an NRS kayak takes about 5 to 8 minutes. With an electric pump (sold separately) it takes 3 to 4 minutes. Deflating and packing it into the backpack takes about the same.

Can you use the NRS Pike for more than fishing?

Yes. The Pike is a fully fledged kayak that also works well for regular paddling. The fishing equipment (rod holders, mounting points) does not get in the way of using it for other things. You simply have extra equipment that you can use or not.
