How did Galaxy Kayaks begin?

The Galaxy Kayaks brand was born in the United Kingdom in 2007. In 2012 Stephen Sweeney, an American born businessman who has lived in Spain for more than 30 years, moved the company to Spain and began actively expanding into the European market. Sweeney had previously run a successful hotel chain in Spain, but decided to change direction and combine business with his passion for fishing and nature.

Galaxy Kayaks became the first European company to specialise in fishing kayaks. Today Galaxy Kayaks can be found in Spain, the United Kingdom, Portugal, France, Italy, Scandinavia and the Baltic states. The company is 100% employee owned, and every new model is developed based on feedback from real anglers and paddlers.

What sets Galaxy Kayaks apart from other manufacturers?

Galaxy Kayaks stands out in several ways. First, its kayaks are made from 5 mm polyethylene using rotomoulding. That means the hull is one piece, with no seams or joints, impact resistant and suitable for both fresh and salt water. Every hull comes with a 3 year manufacturer's warranty.

Second, Galaxy Kayaks offers a very wide range of models: from simple recreational kayaks (from 199 EUR) to advanced pedal and flipper systems (up to 2 299 EUR). Third, the company has its own Cyclone Drive pedal system and flipper drive, which let you move without a paddle and fish with your hands free.

The Galaxy Kayaks model line

We carry more than 19 Galaxy Kayaks models in the VAKA Sport range. They fall into four main categories.

Recreational and family kayaks

This is the most affordable segment, made for beginners, families and anyone who simply wants to enjoy being on the water. In this category you will find the Pinguino (259 EUR), Reef Junior (199 EUR), Reef Adult (from 299 EUR), Fuego (from 449 EUR) and Blaze XL (from 499 EUR). These models are light, stable and supplied with a seat and paddle. You will find a more detailed review of these models in our article on recreational and family kayaks.

Fishing kayaks

This is the premium segment for anglers who want to move without a paddle. Wildcat has a flipper system and a hand controlled rudder. Supernova FX uses the Cyclone Drive pedal system, with the ability to go forwards and backwards. Alboran FX3 is the newest model with a dual drive: both flippers and Cyclone pedals in one kayak. You will find a more detailed comparison of these models in the article Alboran FX, Supernova FX or Wildcat.

Between the seats there is a moulded middle area for a child or a pet. Ideal for couples and families. Tahiti Tandem (from 699 EUR) is a versatile 370 cm two seater with a third spot for a child, weighing just 33 kg and carrying up to 240 kg. Why choose Galaxy Kayaks?

The popularity of Galaxy Kayaks in Europe is no accident. It is one of the best value for money options on the market. For 549 EUR you can get a fully equipped fishing kayak (the Force) with a seat, rod holders and storage compartments. American kayaks with similar equipment would cost twice as much.

On top of that, Galaxy Kayaks is one of the few manufacturers offering both flipper and pedal systems in the same model (the Alboran FX3). That gives you unique flexibility: one day you use the pedals, the next the flippers, and the day after you just paddle.

You will find all Galaxy Kayaks models in our Galaxy Kayaks category. Read about choosing a fishing kayak in How to choose a fishing kayak and Best fishing kayak 2026.
