Galaxy Cruz Ultra is one of the newest Galaxy Kayaks fishing kayaks, made for anglers who want a compact, fast and well equipped kayak at a sensible price. The Cruz Ultra costs 699 EUR and sits between the budget models (Force, Ranger) and the premium pedal kayaks (Wildcat, Supernova). Here we take a detailed look at the Cruz Ultra's construction, fishing features and who it suits best.

What are the Galaxy Cruz Ultra's specifications?

The Galaxy Cruz Ultra is 292 cm long and 83.7 cm wide. Maximum load: 140 kg. The hull is made from 5 mm LDPE polyethylene using rotomoulding, and all screws and bolts are marine grade stainless steel. The kayak is CE certified and has a 3 year manufacturer's warranty on the hull.

Galaxy Cruz Ultra details

The Cruz Ultra design has a sharp bow keel and a V shaped stern, which gives good cruising speed for a shorter kayak. The flat bottom with angled chines maximises stability, so you can fish confidently from the high seat.

What fishing features does the Cruz Ultra have?

The Cruz Ultra is built specifically for fishing, and it shows in the details. The kayak has two fixed flush mount rod holders and one swivelling adjustable holder. At the front there are two side rails for mounting extra accessories , and brass inserts built into the hull let you fit Railblaza accessories without drilling.

The storage is well thought out: the front hatch opens towards the paddler (easy to reach without turning round), and the central rectangular hatch can be used as a bait well with a separate insert. At the back there is a bungee net area for larger items.

A high seat is standard: it gives better visibility and a more comfortable posture for long fishing sessions. The seat is adjustable and has a backrest.

How is the Cruz Ultra different from the Force and Ranger?

Galaxy Force (549 EUR) and Galaxy Ranger (599 EUR) are cheaper fishing models. The Cruz Ultra differs from them in a few ways:

The Cruz Ultra has an extended side design with extra rails for accessories, which the Force and Ranger do not have. Brass Railblaza inserts let you fit accessories without drilling, which saves time and does not damage the hull. The central hatch with a bait well option is a unique Cruz Ultra feature that the cheaper models lack.

However, the Cruz Ultra is shorter (292 cm) than the Strike (which is over 350 cm), so it will not be as fast on open water. If you will mostly paddle on smaller lakes and rivers, the Cruz Ultra's compact size will be an advantage, not a drawback.

You will find a detailed comparison of the Force and Ranger in the article Galaxy Strike or Galaxy Ranger.

Who is the Cruz Ultra best for?

The Cruz Ultra is ideal for an angler looking for a compact but well equipped fishing kayak that can take extra accessories. If your storage space is limited (an apartment garage or a small car), the Cruz Ultra's 292 cm length is a big advantage over longer models.

The Cruz Ultra also suits anglers who want to step up from the Force or Ranger but are not yet ready to invest in a pedal kayak. The 699 EUR price gets you far more fishing features than the cheaper models, while staying much more affordable than the Wildcat or Supernova.

Frequently asked questions

Safety on the water

Always wear a life jacket. For fishing we recommend NRS Chinook Fishing PFD : it has pockets for tools and rod holder slots, so it does not get in the way when fishing. For more on safety gear, read our life jacket comparison.

Is the Galaxy Cruz Ultra suitable for a beginner angler?

Yes. The flat bottom and wide hull (83.7 cm) give good stability even for beginners. The high seat lets you sit comfortably and see further. But if you are not sure kayak fishing is for you, the cheaper Galaxy Force (549 EUR) is also a good start with a smaller investment.

Can you use the Cruz Ultra with a motor?

The Cruz Ultra is not specially adapted for a motor like the Galaxy Strike. However, with a suitable mounting bracket you can add a small electric trolling motor. If a motor is a priority, we recommend the Galaxy Strike (from 799 EUR), which has a dedicated motor mount.

What accessories can you fit on the Cruz Ultra?

The Cruz Ultra has two front rails and brass Railblaza inserts, so you can fit extra rod holders, GPS mounts, a fish finder mount, drink holders and other Railblaza system accessories without drilling. In our kayak accessories category you will find suitable accessories.
