Wilderness Systems TEMPEST 165: a sea kayak for experienced paddlers

The TEMPEST 165 is a serious sea kayak: 503 cm long, 55 cm wide and only 25 kg. It is among the lighter polyethylene sea kayaks. The narrow profile and hard chine hull shape give high speed and a precise response to paddling technique. It is a kayak for paddlers who already know how to paddle and want to refine their technique.

The TEMPEST differs fundamentally from the TSUNAMI: it is not a touring kayak with a sea label. It is a true sea kayak with a smaller cockpit, a lower deck line and a more aggressive hull profile. The smaller cockpit means better protection from water and a closer connection to the kayak through your legs and hips.

Key features

✔ 503 cm x 55 cm sea hull Narrow, fast and precisely responsive. The hard chine design gives clear edging positions and predictable behaviour in waves.

✔ 25 kg weight One of the lighter polyethylene sea kayaks. Easy to transport and carry to the water.

✔ Integrated skeg A drop down skeg helps you hold your direction in crosswinds. Unlike a rudder, a skeg does not get in the way of learning proper paddling technique.

✔ Phase 3 AirPro sėdynė Adjustable even in a small sea cockpit. Pneumatic lumbar support for long trips.

✔ 136 kg keliamoji galia Optimised for lighter paddlers. The kayak performs best when it is properly loaded.

✔ Water resistant hatches Front and rear hatches for expedition luggage. Deck mesh pockets for items you need to reach quickly.

TEMPEST ar TSUNAMI?

The TSUNAMI is stable and forgiving, a great first touring kayak. The TEMPEST is faster and more precise, but demands better technique. If you are already comfortable paddling the TSUNAMI and want to progress, the TEMPEST is the next step.

Who it's for

For experienced paddlers (155–180 cm, 55–80 kg) who want a fast, precise sea kayak. Coastal routes, islands, surf zones, multi day expeditions. Ideal for those preparing for sea paddling or already practising it.
