Point 65 Mezcal GTX Solo is a modular touring kayak with an enclosed cockpit, designed for speed, stability and longer trips. The manufacturer calls it their best modular touring kayak yet. The kayak disassembles into individual modules, so it can be transported inside a car and stored without a large warehouse.

"Point

Key benefits of Point 65 Mezcal GTX Solo

✓ Modular design – the kayak is disassembled into parts that can be carried one at a time

✓ Improved Snap-Tap connection – modules connect firmly, and assembly and disassembly remain simple

✓ Rigid body – the connected kayak behaves as a single unit in the water

✓ Sharper front – cuts through the water more cleanly and helps maintain course

✓ Good course progress – fewer corrections when rowing straight

✓ Integrated rudder – low resistance and fast response

✓ Inflatable AIR seat – you can adjust the hardness with a hand pump, even while swimming

✓ Closed cockpit – the rower sits inside the hull, suitable for tourist routes

✓ Flat tray area in the front cockpit – for small items at hand

✓ 25 kg weight – the disassembled kayak is easier to carry and load into the car

Construction and details

"Point

Snap-Tap modular connector
The Mezcal modules are connected using an improved Snap-Tap system. The manufacturer states that the modules fit together very precisely, but assembly and disassembly remain easy. The result is a rigid kayak that doesn’t feel like a composite in the water.

"Point

Deck and front
The deck has two longitudinal ribs that reinforce the structure. The front is made much sharper for more precise water crossing and better course keeping. This is a touring kayak for which speed and straight movement are important.

"Point

Rudder
The rudder is based on the integrated rudder systems found on Point 65's Freya and Bourbon 17 expedition kayaks. The manufacturer has refined it to provide less drag and faster response. The rudder helps you stay on course in crosswinds and on longer crossings.

"Point

AIR seat
The seat is minimalist, inflatable and ergonomic. You can inflate it to your liking with a hand pump, and you can change the hardness while swimming. This is convenient for longer trips when you want to change the feeling of sitting after a few hours.

Technical data

Length: 420 cm
Width: 60 cm
Height: 32 cm
Weight: 25 kg
Maximum load capacity: 140 kg
Nose module: 107 x 42.5 x 27 cm
Front cockpit module: 158 x 60 x 32 cm
Rear module: 160 x 60 x 27 cm
In the front cockpit: flat tray area

What does 140 kg load capacity mean?

The manufacturer states that the Mezcal GTX Solo has a maximum load capacity of 140 kg, and the kayak itself weighs 25 kg. The load capacity includes the paddler and all the equipment you are carrying.

For example, an 85 kg paddler and 15 kg of equipment for a day trip would be 100 kg, which is well below the limit. A 95 kg paddler with a 30 kg tent, food and water for a multi-day hike would be 125 kg, which is still within the 140 kg limit. The manufacturer does not publish an optimal load range.

Who is the Point 65 Mezcal GTX Solo suitable for?

✓ For paddlers who want a touring kayak with an enclosed cockpit but don't have the space for a long one-piece hull

✓ For those who carry their kayak inside the car, not on the roof

✓ For day and multi-day trips to lakes and the seaside

✓ For those living in an apartment where the kayak needs to be stored in a storage room or basement

✓ For those who value speed and good course performance

The Point 65 Mezcal GTX Solo combines the ride of a touring kayak with the convenience of a modular kayak on shore. Manufacturer's warranty 2 years.
