Native Watercraft Ultimate FX 12: a kayak and canoe in one

Native Watercraft Ultimate FX 12 is a 371 cm long, 77 cm wide hybrid fishing kayak. It has an open, canoe-style interior that is easy to step into and load gear, but handles like a kayak with a double-blade paddle. The Ultimate series has a very loyal following for its stability and versatility, and the FX 12 is its single-seat version for fishing, hunting and overnight trips.

Ultimate FX 12 design

"Native

Seat with two heights

The hand-sewn seat can be lowered when you paddle into the wind and raised when you fish or watch the water. It slides forward and back so the kayak trims evenly with your weight and load. The seat base has a storage box and a cup holder.

"Native

Open interior and storage

The canoe-style interior has no closed hatches, so you simply put a crate, bag or backpack in and secure it with bungee cord. There is open storage at the bow and stern, and between them enough room for hunting or a tent trip.

"Native

Tunnel hull and stability

The patented, updated tunnel hull gives more room for your feet when standing and great stability. The manufacturer recommends the FX 12 for bays, lakes and slow rivers, where standing calmly and fishing matter most.

Transport and care

The Ultimate FX 12 hull weighs only 27.2 kg, so one person can lift it onto a roof rack with kayak cradles. It's carried to the water by the soft handles, and for longer distances a kayak cart is handy. The polyethylene hull isn't afraid of knocks on rocks and sand. After paddling, just rinse with fresh water and store in the shade so the sun doesn't fade the colours.

Technical data

  • Length: 371 cm

  • Width: 77 cm

  • Height at the middle: 32 cm

  • Hull weight: 27.2 kg, fully rigged 29.5 kg

  • Maximum capacity: 159 kg

What does 159 kg capacity mean?

Native includes the weight of the kayak in the capacity. With the seat, the FX 12 weighs 29.5 kg, which leaves about 129 kg for the person and gear. For example, an 85 kg angler and 25 kg of gear together with the kayak make 139.5 kg, which is still below the limit. The manufacturer doesn't publish an optimal load range.

Who is the Native Watercraft Ultimate FX 12 for?

✓ For anglers who want to fish standing on a lake or a slow river

How does it differ from other Native models? The Ultimate FX 15 PRO Tandem is a two-seat, 465 cm version with a 272 kg capacity. The Falcon 11 is a 335 cm long, shorter and more manoeuvrable classic fishing kayak. The FX 12 is the pick when you want an open canoe-style interior, standing stability and low weight in one kayak.

✓ For hunters who need room for gear and easy entry

✓ For overnight trips where you need to load camping gear

✓ For those who want a light kayak that one person can lift onto a car

The Ultimate FX 12 suits those who value stability and the freedom to load everything they need into the open interior of the kayak.
