Design and stability
The Galaxy Pinguino stands out with an ultra-compact 180 cm length and a stable 61.7 cm wide hull. It is the smallest Galaxy Kayaks model, made especially for the youngest children aged 5 to 12: neither too big (which would make it hard for a small child to handle) nor too small (which would limit safety).
The 61.7 cm width gives maximum stability for the youngest beginners. This means the kayak forgives small mistakes: a child can move around, turn, get in and get out safely without fear of tipping over. The sit-on-top design adds a sense of safety: if the child does tip over (which is very unlikely), they can climb back on easily without an adult's help.
The 30 cm height gives an optimal center of gravity for a small child: the kayak sits stable in the water but is not so high that the child cannot get in or out on their own.
11 kg net weight is a standout advantage:
A parent can lift it with one hand and carry it to the water
A child (8+) can drag the kayak from the car on their own
The smallest and lightest Galaxy Kayaks model
Ideal for families with several children
3 molded footrest positions let you adjust the position to the child's height:
For the smallest child (5 to 7 years): the nearest footrest
For a medium height (8 to 10 years): the middle footrest
For a taller child (11 to 12+ years): the farthest footrest
That means the kayak grows with the child and will last from nursery to primary school age.
This kayak suits calm freshwater lakes, ponds, gentler rivers or the seaside close to shore. The ultra-compact 180 cm length gives maximum maneuverability: a child can turn, stop or change direction easily.
Bright colors (from the manufacturer's color line) keep the child clearly visible on the water even from a greater distance, which matters for parents' peace of mind.
Why do load zones matter?
The kayak's maximum capacity is 60 kg, but optimal performance comes at a load of 30 to 50 kg (child plus gear). The base kayak weight is 11 kg. This directly affects stability, maneuverability and the child's experience on the water.
Green zone (30 to 50 kg): A child weighing 35 kg plus 8 kg of gear (a towel, a water bottle, snacks, a toy) = 43 kg: the ideal balance, stable paddling and easy handling
Blue zone (below 30 kg): A child weighing 20 kg plus 5 kg of gear = 25 kg: too light for the youngest child (5 to 6 years), so the kayak may be more sensitive to wind or waves, but it is still safe
Red zone (50 to 60 kg): A child weighing 48 kg plus 15 kg of gear = 63 kg: over the maximum load, the kayak will sit deeper in the water and be harder to handle
IMPORTANT: The base kayak weight (11 kg) leaves 49 kg for the load (child plus gear), so the weight of the child and gear should stay within the 30 to 50 kg range for optimal performance. The recommended maximum child weight is about 50 kg (the average weight of a 10 to 12 year old).
