Over the last few years kayak fishing in Lithuania has become not just trendy but very practical. A kayak takes you to spots a boat cannot reach and where you could never cast from the shore. The only question is which kayak to choose for fishing, how much it costs and whether it is really worth it. I have put together everything from my own experience and customer feedback. No fluff, just specific models, prices and tips.

What to look for in a fishing kayak

Before looking at specific models, it is worth understanding a few things that set a fishing kayak apart from a recreational one.Stability. When fishing you often stand up or lean over the water. A narrow kayak will not do. You need a wide hull with a flat bottom that will not roll when you are fighting a fish.Seat height and comfort. If you plan to sit for 4 hours or more, the hard plastic benches on cheap kayaks will soon remind you they are there. Good fishing kayaks have adjustable seats with back support.Mounting system. Rod holders, fish finder mounts, Railblaza track system. The more options you have to adapt the kayak to your needs, the less you will have to improvise later.Storage. Tackle boxes, space for a cooler, bow and stern hatches. You never have enough space when fishing, so this matters.Load capacity. An angler with gear, tackle and a cooler easily gets close to 100 kg. A good fishing kayak should carry at least 150 kg, ideally 180 kg or more.

American fishing kayak specialists. If your budget allows and you want the very best, Bonafide is the benchmark. Their kayaks are designed purely for fishing. The price is higher accordingly (from 1500 EUR), but these kayaks last for years without any trouble.Bonafide fishing kayaks

NuCanoe

A unique concept from the USA. NuCanoe kayaks are hybrids: wide like a canoe, with adjustable seating positions and the ability to stand up with confidence. The model NuCanoe Frontier 12 is great for fishing: wide, stable, with a track system all around the perimeter. You can sit low near the water or high up like in an armchair.NuCanoe kayaks are heavier (about 40 kg), so they suit people who transport them on a trailer or fish where they do not have to carry them far.NuCanoe for fishing

Fish finder on a kayak

Most fishing kayaks come with ready made spots for mounting a fish finder. It is not a luxury but a practical tool that stops you wasting time in empty water. The main thing is to check that the kayak has:
  • A flat surface for the fish finder base
  • Access to the inner hull for cables
  • A Railblaza or other track system to mount the fish finder bracket on
Tip: there is no need to buy a fish finder that costs more than the kayak. Models up to 300 EUR work perfectly at kayak depths.

How much does a fishing kayak cost in Lithuania

A realistic budget in 2026:Up to 600 EUR — Chinese made sit on top kayaks with basic gear. They can work for fishing, but stability and comfort will be a compromise.600 - 1200 EUR — Galaxy Kayaks range. A good balance of price and quality. Suits both beginners and experienced anglers.1200 - 2000 EUR — Bonafide, NuCanoe. This is serious gear that will last a decade.Over 2000 EUR — Hobie with pedal drive, premium setups. Excellent kayaks, but think hard about whether the budget matches your needs.

What I would recommend

If you fish Lithuanian lakes and rivers (Kaunas Lagoon, Sartai, the Nemunas, the Curonian Lagoon), you do not need an expedition kayak. You need something stable, comfortable and with room for gear. The Galaxy Strike or Alboran FX will cover most needs. If fishing is a serious hobby and you spend 20 or more hours a month on the water, a Bonafide or NuCanoe will pay for itself in the first season through comfort and durability alone. The best advice I can give: sit in the kayak before you buy it if you can. No spec sheet or photo can replace the feeling of sitting down and knowing whether it is comfortable for you.
