M-TAC inflatable mat 195 x 120 x 5 cm

M-TAC inflatable mat 195 x 120 x 5 cm is a double sleeping mat for camping in a tent, overnights by a lake or car trips. The 120 cm width means two people sleep on one mat and neither slides onto the cold tent floor, which is the main difference from two separate single mats that drift apart in the night.

Construction and materials

Cellular structure and 40D Rip-Stop
The mat is made from 40D Rip-Stop nylon with a TPU coating. The Rip-Stop weave stops a small tear spreading, and the TPU coating makes the fabric airtight and moisture resistant. The cellular structure distributes air evenly across the whole 120 cm width, so when one person turns over, the other doesn't feel a wave.

One-way valve
While inflating, the valve holds the air, so the 120 cm wide mat can be inflated by mouth with no pump: air doesn't escape between breaths. In the deflate position the valve opens across its full cross-section and the air leaves in a few seconds. The valve cap is tethered, so it doesn't get lost in the dark.

Rolls into a compact roll
Despite its double width, once deflated the mat rolls into a roll of about 29 x 12 cm and weighs about 1 kg. That means you can carry it in a backpack, not only take it by car: the weight per person for two is about 500 g.

Who is the double mat for?

The mat is for couples and parents with a child camping in a two or three person tent compartment. It's also comfortable for one person who sleeps with gear at hand: 120 cm of width is enough for a sleeping bag and for a backpack and clothes beside it, so they don't stay on the cold ground.

The mat is also useful as a relaxing area on the beach or at a picnic: a 5 cm layer of air insulates from damp grass better than a blanket or a foam mat. Before putting it on gravel or pine needles it's worth laying down a groundsheet, and after use dry the mat inflated so no condensation is left inside.

Care and storage

After a trip the mat should be dried inflated: double mats collect more condensation than single ones, because two people breathe on them. It's best stored deflated and loosely rolled, not tightly compressed in a stuff sack.

In case of a puncture, a TPU patch or adhesive repair tape restores airtightness. Before sticking, the spot needs to be cleaned and fully dried. It's not recommended to pump the mat up to maximum firmness in the cold and then leave it in the sun: warmed air expands and strains the seams.
