Wilderness Systems RIDE 115 X MAX Angler: maximum stability, the full fishing package

The RIDE 115 X MAX Angler is the top of the RIDE 115 series: the model in which WS packed everything a serious kayak angler might need onto a 351 cm platform. MAX in the name refers to the width: 88 cm instead of the standard 86 cm, and that is more than a statistic. It means an angler can freely stand up, turn 180 degrees and pull in a fish without losing stability, even when the kayak is fully loaded.

The X MAX Angler has the highest load capacity in the RIDE 115 line: 159 kg instead of 136 kg on the standard models. That is 17% more, which in practice means a heavier angler plus more fishing gear with the same stability.

✔ 88 cm platform: the widest RIDE 115 The extra 2 cm of width makes a noticeable difference to standing stability. It is the same standing feel as on a platform kayak, but with a narrower beam, letting you move in narrower waterways.

Hull and stability

The RIDE 115 X MAX Angler uses an extended version of the WS flat bottom design with extra side height in the centre. This increases the hull volume at the most important point, the lower seating area, and lets the weight load spread more evenly. The result: the kayak does not dip at the bow even with a 40 kg fishing load.

The 88 cm width also means slightly more water resistance than on the narrower models: the RIDE 115 X MAX is not the fastest RIDE 115 variant, but speed is not the priority here. The priority is stability while fishing.

Weight and load zones

Maximum load capacity: 159 kg. The optimal working zone is for anglers weighing 75–120 kg with a full set of fishing gear.

Green zone (80–115 kg): optimal stability, the platform works as designed, so you can stand and fish at the same time.

Blue zone (below 70 kg): the kayak sits very high, and paddling takes slightly more effort for horizontal control.

Red zone (over 140 kg): stability decreases, and in this case we recommend the RIDE 135 (411 cm) or the PAMLICO 145T platform.

X MAX Angler vs X vs ADVANCE Angler: a practical choice

If you weigh more than 90 kg or plan to carry full fishing gear (fish finder + a full rod and tackle system + spare gear), the X MAX Angler is the only RIDE 115 model in which that is possible without compromises. The X and ADVANCE Angler suit anglers of 60–100 kg with an average amount of gear.
