A few years ago you could buy a kayak in Lithuania in perhaps a couple of places. Now the situation has changed: there are several specialist stores, a few marketplace portals and plenty of classified ads. The question is no longer "where to buy" but "where to buy wisely". I review the more realistic options with their concrete pros and cons.

Specialist kayak stores

VAKA Sport (vakasport.lt)

Specializes in kayaks and inflatable paddle boards. Sells American and European brands: NuCanoe, Bonafide, Galaxy Kayaks, Native Watercraft. Also NRS apparel and the Railblaza accessory system. A wide choice of fishing kayaks, free delivery across Lithuania, detailed product descriptions and an articles section with tips in Lithuanian. If you do not know what you need, you will find plenty of useful information here before making a decision. The most popular VAKA Sport products

Kayakshop.lt

One of the longest-running kayak stores in Lithuania. An official Hobie dealer, it also carries whitewater, touring and sit-inside kayaks. It has a physical location in the Plungė district where you can see kayaks in person. The widest range in the country, from recreational to expedition kayaks. If you are interested in Hobie pedal kayaks, it is the only official supplier in Lithuania.

BicSportas.lt

Specializes in Bic Sport products. It offers kayaks, paddle board sets and inflatable boats, and also serves rental businesses. A good choice for those looking for value for money, especially beginners or anyone who needs gear for a rental operation.

Marketplaces and general stores

Varle.lt / Pigu.lt

Lithuania's big e-commerce portals. You will find kayaks from Intex inflatables (100 EUR) to more serious models. Fast delivery, a 14-day return option and frequent sale prices. Budget models dominate the range. If you know exactly what you are looking for and do not need advice, you can find a good price. Beginners would do well to get advice from a specialist store before buying, so they do not end up with the wrong option.

Patogiai.lt / Valciuparduotuve.lt

Smaller specialist stores with Sevylor, FH and other brands. Mostly inflatable kayaks and boats.

Kaina24.lt / Kainos.lt

Not stores but price comparison portals. Useful for comparing the same model across different stores. Most of the more serious Lithuanian sellers (including VAKA Sport and Kayakshop.lt) list their products on these portals.

Skelbiu.lt / Facebook Marketplace

Used kayaks. You can find good deals, but you need to know what you are buying. Check the condition of the hull (cracks, deformation), the seat, and for UV damage (the plastic turns pale and brittle in the sun).

What to check before you buy

Wherever you buy, there are a few things worth checking:Warranty. A serious seller gives at least a 24-month warranty. If there is no warranty or it is unclear, that is a red flag.Delivery. A kayak is a large item. Delivery can cost 50 to 100 EUR, while some sellers deliver for free. It is worth asking in advance.Parts and accessory supply. After a year you may need a new seat, hatch lid or track system. If the seller has no spare parts for that brand, you will be in trouble.Advice. If you are buying your first kayak, the seller's ability to explain the differences is valuable. A marketplace seller will not do that.

Recommendations by need

First kayak, budget up to 800 EUR: you will find decent options on varle.lt or pigu.lt, but read the reviews carefully. Or look at the Galaxy Kayaks models at VAKA Sport.Fishing kayak, budget 800 to 2,000 EUR: VAKA Sport (Bonafide, NuCanoe, Galaxy Kayaks) or Kayakshop.lt (Hobie, if your budget allows).Touring / expedition kayak: Kayakshop.lt has the widest choice in this segment.Used kayak: Skelbiu.lt, but only if you know what you are buying or can bring someone who does.Inflatable kayak for travel: BicSportas.lt or general stores. Final tip: contact the seller before you buy and ask a few questions about the product. From the answer you will quickly tell whether you are talking to someone who knows their stuff or to a reseller.
