NuCanoe Flint is the lightest and most affordable fishing kayak in the NuCanoe range. 343 cm long, 84 cm wide, made in the USA (Fletcher, North Carolina). At just 29 kg, one person can lift it onto a car roof without help. Despite its compact size, the Flint has the same stable flat deck and accessory track system as the bigger NuCanoe models.

Stable open deck

The Flint's open deck lets you stand, turn around and move freely with your gear. That's the main difference from conventional kayaks with a deep cockpit that's hard to stand up from. With a draft of just 7.5-15 cm, the Flint gets through shallows and rivers where deeper kayaks can't go. The 170 kg load capacity is enough for an angler with a full day's gear. The self-draining system works through scupper holes in the hull: water that lands on the deck drains away by itself, and you can use plugs to control the drainage.

Seat and passenger space

Fusion seat on 99 cm rails
The standard Fusion seat with adjustable backrest slides along 99 cm of rails, so you can pick your seating position to suit your gear layout and the conditions. A 360-degree swivel and height adjustment are available as extras. The Buddy Seat (sold separately) mounts straight onto the rails and lets you take a passenger or a child without losing deck space.

Electric motor ready

The Flint is ready for an electric motor with no hull modifications, bow or stern mounted. Cable pass-throughs let you neatly connect a fish finder and battery through the hull with no wires across the deck. Aluminium tracks run around the whole deck (Freedom and TopLoad Tracks), taking fish finders, rod holders, Railblaza, Scotty, YakAttack and other accessories without drilling.

Flint vs cheaper kayaks

An open deck you can stand on
The main difference between the Flint and cheaper kayaks is the open flat deck. Conventional kayaks have a deep cockpit (sit-in) that's hard to stand up and move around in. The Flint is made of rotomolded polyethylene, the same plastic used for the bigger NuCanoe models (Unlimited 12.5 and Unlimited MAX). It's not a thin vacuum-formed sheet but a tough one-piece hull with a multi-year manufacturer's warranty.

What does a 170 kg load capacity mean?

The NuCanoe Flint has a maximum load capacity of 170 kg. The kayak itself weighs 29 kg, so the usable payload is 141 kg. A few real-world examples:

• 85 kg angler + 30 kg of gear (fish finder, battery, boxes, rods) = 115 kg. 26 kg to spare.

• 95 kg angler + 35 kg of gear = 130 kg. 11 kg to spare.

• 75 kg angler + 10 kg pet + 20 kg of gear = 105 kg. 36 kg to spare.

NuCanoe doesn't publish an optimal weight range for the Flint. 170 kg is the maximum according to the manufacturer's specification.
