Galaxy Strike motor kayak on the water
Galaxy Ranger motor kayak

The Galaxy Strike and Galaxy Ranger are the two most popular Galaxy Kayaks motor kayaks. Both are made for use with an electric motor, both are stable and good for fishing. But they are made for different people and different situations. Below we compare them on the most important criteria.

How is the Galaxy Strike different from the Galaxy Ranger?

The main difference is size and load capacity. Galaxy Strike is larger (200 cm long, 100 cm wide) with a 250 kg load capacity. Galaxy Ranger is more compact and lighter (just 21.8 kg), but has a lower load capacity.

The Strike supports motor mounting at both the bow and stern and can run twin motors. The Ranger has a single motor mounting position. The Strike comes with wheels, a long paddle and a front hatch. The Ranger comes with a seat, paddle and holders.

Who is the Galaxy Strike for?

The Strike is a serious fishing platform. Its 250 kg load capacity lets you carry all the gear you need: crates, a sonar, a spare battery, a cooler. The wide 100 cm hull gives stability even in waves, so it suits both the Curonian Lagoon and bigger lakes.

If you fish for long periods, need lots of room for gear, and transport is not an issue (you have a trailer or help loading), the Strike is the better choice. A 360 degree swivel seat is available as an option and is very useful when fishing.

Who is the Galaxy Ranger for?

The Ranger is made for those who value mobility. At 21.8 kg, carrying it from the car to the water on your own is no problem. It fits on a roof rack, in a van, even in a large car boot.

If you fish often but for short sessions (2 to 3 hours), change spots frequently and do not want to deal with a trailer or loading, the Ranger is the more practical solution. Its 98 cm width still gives beginners good stability.

Which is better for fishing?

Both work for fishing, but in different ways. The Strike is the better platform for long fishing sessions on big waters, where you need stability, space and the option to mount extra gear. The Ranger is better suited to short trips to smaller lakes and rivers, where getting on the water quickly matters more.

Frequently asked questions

Safety on the water

Always wear a life jacket when kayaking. For fishing we recommend NRS Chinook Fishing PFD : it has pockets for tools and rod holder slots, so it does not get in the way when fishing. For more on safety gear, read our life jacket comparison.

Can you use any electric motor?

The Galaxy Strike is compatible with 12V electric motors of up to 44 lb thrust. The Galaxy Ranger also uses 12V motors, but because of its smaller size lower powered models are recommended. You will find motors and batteries in our motors category.

Does a motor kayak need to be registered?

In Lithuania a kayak with an electric motor of up to 400W does not need to be registered. Larger motors may need to be registered with the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration. A fishing licence is required regardless of the motor.

How long does the battery last?

It depends on battery capacity and speed. With a standard 12V 50Ah battery at medium speed you can travel for 3 to 5 hours. In fishing mode (slow movement, frequent stops) the battery lasts the whole day.
