Construction and details
2LF Fusion: double layer without glue
A second PVC layer is heat fused to the main PVC laminated Drop-Stitch fabric. No glue is used, so the result is a seamless double wall that increases stiffness, durability and service life. According to the manufacturer, such a board is up to 25% lighter than standard double layer boards, so it is easier to carry and handle.
RRT 2.0 rails and 18-20 PSI
The first rail layer is attached to the hull, a second is heat welded on top, and a third finishing layer seals it all. Such a rail is very strong, so the board can be inflated to 18-20 PSI (1.24-1.37 bar). The higher the pressure, the less the board flexes underfoot. The board has one air chamber and a high pressure valve with a bayonet connection.
Centre Slide fin
A single removable fin slides into a slide box without tools. It helps the board track, so you switch paddling sides less often. Before you pack the board in the backpack, the fin comes off in seconds.
Non-slip deck and handles
The deck has a non-slip diamond grooved pad that grips your feet well even when wet. Handles at the front and back help you carry the board to the water or pull it up onto the shore.
Stability and handling on the water
The manufacturer describes the Comet J2 as a board that is stable on the water yet smooth and predictable. The 81 cm width gives good side stability and manoeuvrability, and the 320 cm length lets the board glide smoothly. It is simple to control and gives confidence from the first outings.
The maximum capacity is 145 kg, and the manufacturer recommends the board for paddlers up to 100 kg, leaving spare capacity for gear. The J2 suits calm lakes, rivers and the coast in calm weather.
How does the Comet J2 differ from the J1 and J3?
The J1 is 290 cm long and 89 cm wide, so it is more stable and better suited to complete newcomers. The J3 is 350 cm long and tracks better on longer outings, but is less nimble. The J2, at 320 cm, sits in the middle: stable enough for a beginner and glides more smoothly than the J1.
